Horse No 1: DAILY TROPHY (H283) – B Thompson
In the home straight, DAILY TROPHY, ridden by B Thompson, exhibited erratic behavior by laying in, which forced Thompson to stop riding on multiple occasions to straighten his mount. This situation not only affected his performance but also posed a potential risk to other competitors on the track. Following the race, DAILY TROPHY was sent for sampling to ensure compliance with racing regulations and to check for any substances that may have influenced its behavior.
Horse No 3: SMART LEADER (B456) – Z Purton
Before the race even began, SMART LEADER, under the guidance of Z Purton, was noted to have blood at its mouth upon arrival at the start. The Veterinary Officer examined the horse and deemed it fit to race. However, after the event, Purton could not provide any explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance. A subsequent veterinary inspection revealed no significant findings, leaving the team puzzled about the horse’s lackluster showing.
Horse No 5: HIGH RISE POWER (H353) – B Avdulla
HIGH RISE POWER, ridden by B Avdulla, faced challenges right from the start due to a wide barrier position. The jockey strategically shifted the horse behind runners in the early stages to find a better position. This tactical decision is often crucial in racing, as it allows horses to conserve energy for a strong finish.
Horse No 6: DIAMOND SOARS (G201) – E C W Wong
Apprentice jockey E C W Wong faced a dilemma during the concluding stages of the race with DIAMOND SOARS. He expressed concern that REGENCY HAPPY STAR might shift in towards his mount, which led him to refrain from riding out fully. The Stewards acknowledged that while REGENCY HAPPY STAR did indeed shift in, there was still sufficient room for Wong to continue riding. Although Wong’s actions did not affect his horse’s finishing position, he was reminded of his responsibility to ride his mounts out to the finish line in future races.
Horse No 7: SUPER JOY (G251) – M Chadwick
M Chadwick, riding SUPER JOY, reported that his mount began the race only fairly and struggled to travel well throughout the event. Near the 450 Metres mark, SUPER JOY raced tightly alongside SMART LEADER, which added to the challenges faced during the race. Despite finishing fairly in the home straight, the horse did not seem to handle the loose surface well. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed a substantial amount of blood in SUPER JOY’s trachea, prompting officials to require an official veterinary examination before the horse can race again. The horse was also sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 8: VULCANUS (J150) – Y L Chung
VULCANUS, ridden by Y L Chung, had a less than ideal start, jumping only fairly and subsequently racing wide without cover for the majority of the event. This positioning can often lead to fatigue and diminished performance, as horses expend more energy when not sheltered by other runners. Following the race, VULCANUS was also sent for sampling to ensure compliance with racing standards.
Horse No 9: REGENCY HAPPY STAR (H248) – M L Yeung
In the closing stages of the race, REGENCY HAPPY STAR, under M L Yeung, found itself in a precarious position, unable to be fully ridden out due to being awkwardly placed close to the heels of DAILY TROPHY. Although B Thompson, the rider of DAILY TROPHY, stopped riding to straighten his mount, the Stewards advised him that in similar situations, he should make an effort to correct his horse sooner to avoid impeding others.
